As I exit my building for lunch, the ice-cold winter wind rolls down Huntington and hits me like a freakin' freight train. Put on the gloves, pull down the hat, zip up the jacket.
Just then, Mother Nature reaches into the shopping bag of the woman in front of me and yanks a small white piece of paper out, throwing it into the frigid air. She watches, mouth open, as it flies across the street towards the back entrance of the Prudential Mall. "You going to go for it?," I ask, as she takes a tentative step towards the less-than-usual MLK-Day traffic. "No choice... I'm returning this stuff... I need that receipt," she replies. "Ok, I'll keep an eye on it, then," I offer, as she bolts to the median, one hand securing her hat on her head. She's about ten feet from the slip, when Mother Nature, moody bitch that she is, literally launches it straight up, alongside the Prudential Tower, and completely out of sight. She gives a defeated shrug in my direction, walks into the shelter of the mall, and disappears. Let's hope she gets an understanding sales clerk. So, yeah. It's windy and cold here. Sheesh. ![]() |
