Back at home after a Friday night out, good friends and a rock show, beers in crowded bars, now sitting down at my computer to learn the terrible, heart-crushing news that Silkworm drummer Michael Dahlquist died in a tragic car crash yesterday, on Thursday, July 14th. I'd had the great fortune of meeting Michael a couple times at Silkworm shows, he was never less than extremely friendly to everyone that approached him. I know he was a great drummer, someone I could have watched play for hours on end, someone I truly admired, but by all accounts he was an even better human being. I never stopped looking forward to the next time Silkworm came to town so I could see him behind the kit again, shirt off and arms flying. I'm so stunned by this... so pointless, so out of the blue. Just sitting at a stop light, hit from behind by someone so distraught, so insanely selfish... I'm trying not to get angry, but it's so tough. My thoughts are with Michael's family, his bandmates, all his friends, as well as those of John Glick (guitarist for the Returnables) and Doug Meis (drummer for Exo and the Dials), who were in the car with Michael, just heading out on their lunch break. To share thoughts or read others, visit the Silkworm messageboard, or this thread on the Electrical Audio board. Another article on the crash resides here. I'm going to go put on 'Firewater' and then hope that sleep comes sometime soon. F'in hell. |
