A quick missive from my cube... Summer just got a little brighter. Kristin Hersh and her Throwing Muses are arising from their recurring limbo to play a couple East Coast shows, and very lucky us, one of them is here in Boston. Friday, August 11th at the Middle East Downstairs to be exact, followed by an NYC stop the next day at the Bowery Ballroom. These two dates come a week after they make an appearance at the Icelandic Innipukinn Festival. Tickets for the Boston date go on sale tomorrow, and Hersh's other excellent (and currently active) band, 50 Foot Wave, will open up in both Boston and NYC. A reminder: Tonight's Sonic Youth show with openers Be Your Own Pet at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC will be webcast live on NPR.org starting at around 6:45 EST. As part of the NPR Live Concert Series, it should be archived on their site shortly thereafter. Bonnaroo what? Intonation who? For my money, the best fest lineup this year will be at September's Touch & Go 25th Anniversary Celebration in Chicago. The New Year, a reunited Seam, Shellac, Ted Leo, the original Girls Against Boys lineup, Quasi, Pinback, and that's just a taste. Somebody freakin' pinch me. I'm going to be at that sucker if I have to walk there from Boston and sleep in a dumpster. Actually, I'm pretty sure I can swing a plane ticket, but it's the lodging that's gonna be tough. I've made some calls, and hotels have dried up thanks to other events going on that particular weekend. Any Chicago-area 'Nac readers with floor space out there? Even a cardboard box in your backyard would work. Oh, the things I would do for you... |
