Wednesday, August 01, 2012 One week ago we were given a communal chance to bid farewell to a Sunday-night radio staple: The Boston Accents local music program that ended when WFNX was officially swallowed by the I was honored to play a small part in the partying, along with my DJ partner Jay "Clicky Clicky" Brietling, as we soundtracked the before-between-and-after-band moments of the second show with our own personal song selections. Naturally, we kept things local: Our favorite tracks from Boston-area bands past and present to honor the mission of Boston Accents. I kicked things off after the soundchecks, just before 9 o'clock, playing a set that lead into the Dirty Virgins opening slot, along with another short set before Soccer Mom took the stage. Jay took over from there, surrounding Mellow Bravo and Mean Creek, and you can check out his tracklists over at his place. His sets leaned just a little more old-school, while I mostly stuck to the last decade-or-so, though we both had some outliers (I'll take any opportunity to play Swirlies "Sunn" in public). Some of you may notice a quintet of songs in my set that follow a bit of a theme, so bonus points if you get that... Set 1 |
