Bear With Me...

I dreamed last night of a gigantic, monster-sized grizzly bear... probably 20 feet tall, brownish-gray colored, and more than a little pissed off. He was inside a fence that enclosed a large, dirt-covered lot on the outskirts of the smoking ruins of a bombed-out cityscape, and on the edge of an immense deep-green forest. Surrounding the bear were dozens of dirty children... from toddler to teenager... and they were literally hurling themselves at the grizzly. As the first launched into the air, I realized that the bear was declawed as he swatted the kid away, sending him clear over the fence. This triggered a mad rush of children as the bear turned it's head upwards and screamed into the sky.

The fighting, shouting, growling, swatting, flying, and chasing continued as I watched from the outside, hands gripping the chain-links. A small laddered watch-tower in the center of the lot contained those who wanted no more of the fight, until the bear careened into it and sent it crashing downwards. As this happened, many of the kids ran to the concrete, gated tunnel that led under the fence and out of the battlezone. The bear chased them, and they begged for those of us on the outside to unlock the gate, desperately reaching their hands between the iron bars. No one helped, knowing this would allow the bear to escape.

When the enraged grizzly reached the top of the inner-tunnel stairway, he fell, rolling down the cement steps into the frantic crowd below and crashing into the gate, bending it outwards and breaking the lock. As he struggled to right himself, the children piled on top of him, attempting to hold him down as he smelled freedom.

He looked straight at me, then. Piercing eyes begging for help, looking towards the forest, and again back at me. I had to do something.

And then I woke up.
