When you wake up on a summer Saturday morning and look out your back door, the last thing you expect to see here in Boston... is a big honkin' chicken... We couldn't imagine where the thing escaped from, how it got into our Lower Allston backyard, although we assume it hadn't come far. If it did, it would have had to cross the Mass Pike to our south or the Charles River to our north. Knowing it wouldn't last long out there, we made a quick call to the Animal Rescue League of Boston... Just an hour later, an ARL volunteer arrived to scoop him up and deliver him to greener pastures... According to the rescue worker, even though raising chickens within Boston city limits is illegal, they do get the occasional fowl call, and for some reason most of those reports come from Dorchester. Whoever lost this one, though, will now find him resting comfortably at an ARL farm in Dedham... Pretty strange way to start off the day... |
