A few days late but worth the wait... this week's mp3s are Mary Timony's set from TT the Bears in Cambridge, MA this past Tuesday. It was the first date of a week long tour that marks the release of her new disc, 'Ex Hex'. I picked it up at the show and it's a stunner... just her and drummer Devin Ocampo (who also played bass on it) with Fugazi's Brendan Canty behind the mixing board. She's touring with Mr. Ocampo on the kit, and admittedly it's tough for a a duo to measure up to the more-fleshed-out sound of the album, but the performance was a great one (if only the soundperson was up to the task... how hard can it be to mix just guitar and drums?). A real pleasure to see and hear Mary on the guitar again, and Ocampa is simply an amazing drummer. You lucky kids at the west coast dates (tomorrow, saturday, & monday) will also get Mr. Canty joining them on bass. Jealous. So here's Tuesday's nine song set... Mary Timony & Devin OcampoEight songs from 'Ex Hex' (get it here with coupon code 'timony15'), along with 'Valley of One Thousand Perfumes' from her first solo disc 'Mountains'. Photos from the show are over here at my flickr page. Be sure to check out Timony's newly redesigned site, and as always, stop by the Poison Moon fansite for the latest. Labels: livemp3s |
