I know I promised some live Crayon this week, but that'll have to wait a bit, since I'm keen on posting songs from the night of pop at P.A.'s Lounge in Somerville last weekend. It was The Lucksmiths return to the Boston area, and the Aussies came with Brooklyn's Ladybug Transistor and London's pop-duo Pipas. We headed over to the crowded club after a pre-show party that was as much of a bbq as we could make it, given the Saturday spring rain. Lots of food and friends was the perfect way to ease into the evening, and we brought a bit of our buzzes over to PA's with us. I'll do these mp3s in reverse order of the sets, so first here's the Lucksmiths doing a mix of old and new, with the new coming from their just-released 'Warmer Corners' disc... In the middle slot was The Ladybug Transistor, longtime friends and touring pals of the Lucksmiths, who drove up from Brooklyn. Their set included guests Otto Hauser (of Philadelphia's Espers) on drums, along with the Lucksmith's own Marty Donald on some added guitar action. The Ladybug's most recent record is a self-titled one, out on Merge, and pulled songs from that, along with a few from 'Argyle Heir' and 'The Albermarle Sound', and one from 'Beverly Atonale'... The openers for the night, and for all the Lucksmiths shows on this tour, were East London electro-pop duo Pipas. Mark and Lupe did more than these six songs, but it's all I captured with my recorder. I guessed on a couple of their titles, so if you recognize 'em and I'm wrong, let me know in the comments below... A few more photos from the day can be found here. The tour finishes up tonight, with all three bands together again in Washington, DC, so check it out if you happen to be down there. Labels: livemp3s |
